This Semester Is Basically Over

With the semester coming to a close the one question seems inevitable.

What did I learn?
Hmm.

Great question.

Wellllllllll.

1. I learned that carpooling with someone is great and is a perfect way for: Venting, sharing thoughts, sharing feelings, having fun. Thanks Cami!
2. I learned that Anthro is ridiculously easy.
3. I learned that upper division G.E's are easier than the lower division ones.
4. I learned that when old people complain in African societies, it is a sign of sanity and people respect them for that. (As opposed to our lovely society)
5. I found out how fun Intramural sports is and can't wait to do more flag football and even basketball next semester.
6. I learned how completely USELESS textbooks are. I have like 4 - 5, and didn't even glance at them at all. No homework or anything really merited it. Waste.
7. I learned... that I don't really need to try on my finals :) because of all the hard work I did this semester

It was actually a pretty stress-free semester and although break is coming, it isn't terribly needed. But I'll welcome it with open arms.

Rock Music

A good question was brought up in my Comm 233 class earlier tonight. Is Rock music essentially dead with all of the new subjects of music?

My answer. Yes. Why?
1 word my friends.

Nickelback.
They are the ultimate abomination of music. They could quite possibly be the worst band ever made. I cant believe they are defined as "rock" by radio stations, vh1, mtv or what have you. Even my sirius radio plays them on the Rock stations. Ugh.

Want proof?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbCzGt7S7M4

That link is absolute proof to how trashy they are. Go ahead. Take a gander.

If you think they are good, more power to ya. But in this mans opinion they need to fade away into vanilla ice history

Random Thought on Professors

Why is it okay for professors to be terribly unprofessional? This isn't high school anymore, where learning is a privilege. No, this is college where learning is a right given to us either by our parents or ourselves because of having to pay for class.

With that said, why do we, as students, suffer from just plain bad professors. Shouldn't we have everything we need in order to pass our classes? Why is it that my professor can forget things and I have to make up for it?

Example.
This certain professor assigned us two projects to be due during finals week. No big deal. A lot of work. But whatever. She told us to have an idea of what we were going to film by the time we came back from Thanksgiving break. An idea.

Now, today, we have to turn in our final script that we plan to use for said projects. Im sorry. But 90% of us haven't filmed anything because you told us to have an idea of what we were going to do, and now we have to turn in a script? Don't worry. That's not that bad.

Apparently, she was supposed to give us an assignment to do over Thanksgiving break, but she forgot. So when she gave it to us on Monday, did she extend the deadline? Nope. Her other classes had a week and a half to do the assignment because she remembered to give it to them (which called for writing another script) while we had to turn in ours today. 2 days after finding out about it.

Cool right?
Also, I don't think she knows about Blackboard or email because our class was cancelled two times, in a row without any notification. Now that maybe cool for some people, but i have to wake up at 8 - 9 am in order to get to school on time for this class. If i had known, I could sleep in 2 - 3 more hours. Oh well.

All I know is, if I "forget" to do something at my job. I get in trouble, or maybe fired.

Top 5 Facts About The NFL Before Week 11

So every team has now officially played 9 games.

We should have a good idea where we will be come January, right?

Nope. Not a chance. So many wacky things have happened this year that no true #1 team has stood out. Here are 5 things we (when I say we I mean I) know entering week 11.

1. The Titans Are OVER RATED

I can't stand everyone falling in love with this team. I dare any casual NFL fan to name at least 2 of their receivers, I can... But I am a die hard fan and know everything about the NFL.
Let me name the extremely tough opponents the Titans have had to face so far:

The Jaguars, who are very disappointing this year at below .500
The Bengals, oh wow scary
The Texans, again. Scary
The Vikings. Right after the Tavaris Jackson experiment ended.
The Ravens. Now. If they would face eachother now, it would be a great game, but at the beginning of the season Joe Flacco was still learning the game, and Mcgahee was injured.
The Chiefs. Rofl.
The Colts. See Jaguars
The Packers. A good team
The Bears. With Rex Grossman. Rofl again.

Their next three games? The Jaguars again. The Jets and the ugh. Lions.

Three of the teams the Titans played are over .500 There we go.

2. The Raiders, with 2 wins, are worse than the Bengals (1 win) and the Lions (0 wins).

Firing Lane Kiffin was the dumbest thing they could have done. Those players loved playing hard for him and now they are stuck with the cable guy. That, and the fact they cut D. Hall already after 8 games is laughable. Javon Walker soon to come. So much for the salary cap

3. Kurt Warner is a serious MVP candidate.

Look at his stats. After Monday nights game, he passed my boy Philip Rivers as the new top rated passer in the league. His team is 4 games ahead in the laughable NFC west division and they are set to have a home playoff game for the first time in God knows when. If he can grab the MVP this year, Kurt Warner should be a lock for the Hall of Fame which is amazing for a guy who was supposed to be a back up for Matt Leinart (Remember him?)

4. Pass Interference should be reviewable by Instant Replay.

This is getting ridiculous. This penalty can cost a team anywhere from 1 yard to 60 yards and is so hard to see at some points in the game. I, being a charger fan, feel like EVERY game a PI (pass interference) call goes against us and we end up getting screwed. It happened in London and it happened last weekend against the Chiefs. We almost lost because of the BS call on Clinton Hart when he knocked down the pass intended for Tony Gonzalez. This play put the Chiefs on the 1 yard line where the scored and were set up for the win. Why can't this play be reviewed? It almost cost us the game.

Boo.

5.  The Giants are the best team in the NFL.

There should be no questions. They are the defending super bowl champions and are 8-1. That is an amazing feat to do after winning a superbowl and LOSING TWO great d-lineman in Umenyiora and Strahan.

I can't wait for January.

Connections!

I have always heard that you need "connections" to get places in life. It doesn't really matter about your education and how far you went in school if you dont know anybody.

I think I met that anybody.

His name is Erik Pessalano (sp?) and he does radio broadcasting for sportsnetusa.net for high school and college sports. We have talked about sports and stuff recently until I finally asked him how he got into the radio business. He told me about a class at fullerton college (the jc) and the rest is history.

The class basically introduces you to a career in Radio and TV, while throwing you out there right away to do sports games. Erik told me that you always have a game scheduled to do even after the 1st week of class. Many people drop out as well because they can't handle it, but Erik has been doing it for 3 - 4 years I believe.

I am very excited because this is exactly what i want

Camille's Late and Im Listening To Great Music

I am sitting here at my house waiting for Camille Poblete to pick me up so we can start our 12 hour adventure at school.

Ew I feel gross already thinking about it.

Although today will be relaxing because this past weekend I had 3 papers due and a project so thankfully I could rest for a little bit.

I bought some cds last week from some bands that I love and man, they are fantastic.

All That Remains' new cd "Overcome" has not stopped playing on my iPod since last tuesday, it is just amazingly hard, fast music that is so well done.

The other cd is A Static Lullaby's "Rattlesnake!". This cd caught me off guard 'cause I didnt know they were releasing another cd, and man this is definetly their best work.

Especially the secret song at the end of the cd.

A hard rock/screamo version of Britney Spears "Toxic."

Hey, it's catchy

School

Sucks.

I thought this semester was going to be great, but so far it is not so much. Sept 29 is the day of reckoning for some reason, as I have three entirely separate projects/papers due. Good thing I promised myself I would start them tomorrow (Wed.)

For a procrastinator, thats a good start!

The Chargers Lost Again

By a stupid call.

And a stupid "Replay malfunction"

It's the year 2008 and we are having malfunctions still?

Bullshit

The Love of My Life Let Me Down Today

The San Diego Chargers lost.

To the Panthers.

...

The Panthers.

With ZERO seconds left. Thats heartbreaking. Today was such a strange day for the AFC. Four of the Five "Power Houses" of the AFC were dealt blows that no one saw coming.

San Diego lost to the Panthers.
Jacksonville lost to the Titans who didnt even have Vince Young (for what its worth anyway)
Indianapolis lost to the freakin Chicago Bears. THE BEARS!
and worst of all

The New England Patriots, while winning BARELY over the Kansas City Chiefs, lost superstar Quarterback Tom Brady for the season (word on the street anyway).

What a crushing blow. Honestly, I hate the Patriots but I feel so bad right now. It's just not fair for the NFL or the Pats. As much as I hate them and want the Chargers to destroy them everytime we take the field, I want a good match. I want to see 2 bloodthirsty teams face off against eachother laying it all on the line. But now, when they face eachother on Oct. 12th, a game I have tickets to, it will most likely be something entirely different.

Or maybe it will still be a game between 2 powerhouses.

Maybe

Kids In Restaurants

Oh boy. Today was nuts at work (I work at Chilis by the way). I have never seen so many children in the restaurant at one time. I kid you not, at least 100 different children were in this store in the time between 12pm and 2 pm. So what's the problem?

Nothing really, well not for the 95 of those kids.

However, there are always those kids. Yes, those kids. The ones who range from 5 months to 2 years old and the "very responsible" parents decide to take them out to lunch/dinner. The kids who DO NOT shut up, or stop running around the restaurant. There was one baby today at a table on one side of the restaurant screaming bloody murder and I could hear every part of it while setting up food in the kitchen. I also had my own problem child at a table who threw everything from the table onto the floor. Now, being the amazing waiter I am, I said politely "Oh we don't throw those things on the floor silly." To which the parents say.

Oh how cute of her.

Yeah, don't worry. I don't have ANY problem stopping what I am doing in order to pick up the 30 coasters your kid has decided to throw on the ground. That is definitely my responsibility. Oh wait, its not. They're YOUR kids people.

Why is it that most parents don't clean up after their kids throw the sugars all over the table, spill all of their cheerios on the ground, or even if they decide that milk looks better outside of the cup. It is always a small giggle and a "Oh well."

I am just waiting for the day when someone's kid is running around the restaurant and runs into me as I am carrying a tray of food and I spill it on the ground. That will be fun

Shawne Merriman

In case you didnt know, Im a HUGE San Diego Chargers fan. Probably the biggest one you know. Or even the biggest one you dont know. All of my friends probably believe this as well, seeing as how im always wearing something to do with the chargers and my car even has a chargers license plate and emblem on it.

Now, about Shawne Merriman.

If you hadnt heard, he has two torn ligaments in his knee and has decided TO PLAY this year. Despite the words of 5, yes five, doctors to sit out this year and get surgery he has decided to play. The big issue is the fact that if Shawne takes even the slightest damage to his knee while playing, it could end his career. Hes only 24 years old, that could possibly be 7+ years of football down the drain.

Whats my beef? Well, he is one of our top defensive players and he brings a great emotional aspect to the team. No one can deny that, but as a fan of the GAME of football and not just my team, I want him to sit out and get healthy. It would be terrible and gut wrenching to see a truck come out to the field and carry off Merriman during a game.

Ive been reading other Chargers fans thoughts and they are all FOR the fact that he wants to play. I have no idea why... I understand that at any given time a player could be hit awkwardly and his season or career done. But when it is now etched in your mind that one small hit could end your career, dont you think Merriman might be playing it safe when he is out on the field? And what about the opponents? Now when they play the Chargers they will most likely game plan towards the side Merriman is on, thinking that he most likely has lost a step or two when covering a running back or tight end out in the flats.

In the end I think its a dumb decision on his part. Oh well.

GO CHARGERS

Cal State Fullerton Parking

This shit pisses me off. This school is a joke. I understand that this school is heavily populated but it's starting to get out of hand.

Now, Monday was the first day of school so I expected it to be crowded and I arrived at roughly 10:45 am so yeah. However, the last 2 years I had arrived around that time and there would at least be parking in the far lot (Lot A). I always parked there cause I knew people hated parking there and I would always be able to find a spot. Well, back to Monday, Cami and I had to park in a DIRT LOT across the street from the school. Yes, a DIRT LOT. How ghetto. Oh but wait, isnt that why we paid 144 dollars for a school parking permit?

So anyway, that isn't the bad part. TODAY Cami and I started our carpooling/gym adventure and we got onto the freeway at roughly 9:05 am. We arrived to school at 9:30 am thinking "Hey, well actually get a close spot or at least in the normal spot in Lot A we usually do."

Ha.

Ha ha

Funny joke. Again we were met with big lines and crowded lots and the almost too familiar dirt lot right in front of us. However we did see that there was 1 empty row in Lot A (the last row before the dirt lot mind you...) and thanks to the lovely cops who made sure we were turning the right way even though we were in a right turn lane we grabbed a spot.

Thank goodness Cami and I got lockers at the gym. At least there was some success.
